Improving sustainability

Avista, McKinstry, and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory are partners in a new Spokane development. The South Landing Eco-District is a model for sustainable buildings and a real-world demonstration of new building techniques, materials, and a sustainable shared energy model. Researchers at PNNL will deploy and test new building technologies and energy-management approaches involved in the Eco-District.

Congratulations to Comcast WashingtonSlalomSymetra, and Windermere, who were among those included in the Puget Sound Business Journal’s recent list recognizing Washington’s best workplaces of 2021. See the list here. In addition, Comcast was awarded the PSBJ’s Corporate Citizenship Award in the Education category for work connecting students and communities to the internet during the pandemic.

Investing in Black-led businesses & nonprofits

Bank of America is partnering with the Black Future Co-op Fund and University of Washington Foster School of Business’ Consulting and Business Development Center to build generational sustainability of Washington Black-led businesses and nonprofits. Bank of America contributed a $500,000 grant to the effort that will provide tailored technical assistance, leadership development training, financial management guidance, and help accessing funding to businesses and organizations. Amazon has announced the launch of the Black Business Accelerator to help build sustainable equity and growth for Black-owned businesses. The company is committing $150 million over the next four years to help thousands of Black entrepreneurs reach hundreds of millions of customers and become successful sellers on Amazon.

Boeing completed a successful first flight of its 737-10, which can carry up to 230 passengers and incorporates environmental improvements.
