Supporting WA students
Boeing and Microsoft renewed their support for the Washington State Opportunity Scholarship (WSOS) with recent donations. The program, which provides scholarships to students from low- and middle-income backgrounds, has helped more than 6,000 college students pursue credentials in high-demand fields. Amazon announced grants to WSOS, the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, and the Seattle Colleges Foundation to support an initiative to offer computer science bachelor programs at Seattle Colleges.
Providing pathways to high-demand careers
Amazon Web Services is partnering with the Washington Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction to train and certify 2,500 K-12 students in cloud computing skills by 2024. Kaiser Permanente has partnered with Washington STEM in developing its POC Health Careers Ecosystems, a program that aims to create a pipeline for students of color working on advanced medical degrees to access leadership positions in the healthcare field.
Researching COVID & providing vaccines
Scientists at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center are sharing information about the omicron variant. Premera Blue Cross, Seattle Kraken, and Virginia Mason Franciscan Health teamed up to offer community members the vaccine at a pop-up clinic.
