Powering Innovation: Fred Hutch has led the development of a vaccine designed to elicit ‘broadly neutralizing antibodies’ to bock HIV since 2013. Now, it is nearly ready for its first phase of testing in human volunteers. Scientists at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory have created a battery designed for the electric grid that locks in energy for months without losing much storage capacity, a step toward batteries that can be used for seasonal storage.

Investing in Communities: Puget Sound Energy Foundation launched a $600,000 competitive grant program to empower community resiliency. Nonprofit and Tribal Governments within PSE’s 10-county service area are invited to apply. Cambia Health Solutions continued a tradition this month of donating laptops to graduates of the Eureka! STEM Program, a five-year program designed to support and motivate underserved young people in working toward educational and career goals.

Championing Inclusion: Bristol Meyers Squibb Foundation Winn Award Program is working to diversify clinical trials to create therapeutic options that are effective in all. Seattle Kraken will add a program dedicated to young female hockey players at Kraken Iceplex.
